Preparing your files
To guarantee the highest quality DTF printing, preparing your files is essential.
By following these recommendations, you will avoid printing defects, dull colors, unwanted backgrounds, and loss of detail.
Here you will find the rules to follow to send us a file that is perfectly ready to print.
🖥️ File formats and compatibility
Everything regarding accepted file types and elements to check before sending:
- Accepted formats : .ai, .psd, .pdf, .tiff, .png
- Unsupported formats : .jpg, .cdr
- Vectorized fonts : all fonts must be vectorized or embedded.
- File naming : use a clear name to facilitate processing (e.g., Brand_Name_Visual1)
- Spelling : Please proofread all texts carefully; no corrections will be made.
🎨 Graphic design preparation of the visual
Guidelines related to the content of the image:
- Background transparency : delete all background layers, do not flatten the image
- What will be printed: only the elements visible on a transparent background will be included.
- Recommended resolution: minimum 300 dpi for optimal quality
- Dimensions: Respect the final dimensions without cutting lines or markings.
🌈 Colors and printing
Everything related to color management and final rendering:
- Required color mode: CMYK only (RGB for .png files)
- RGB not accepted (except .png): automatic conversion may result in dulled colors and loss of brightness.
- Screens vs. printing: colors on screen (in RGB) may differ from the final result (in CMYK).
FAQ – DTF Textile
On which textiles can I apply DTF?
DTF works on the majority of textiles: cotton, polyester, cotton/polyester blends, softshell, lightweight nylon and technical textiles.
It is suitable for both light and dark clothing.
The only materials that are not recommended are highly textured, plush or non-stick treated fabrics.
What do I need to apply DTF?
All you need is:
• a heat press (ideally professional),
• of your ready-to-use DTF transfer,
• of a clean and dust-free textile.
Using an iron is strongly discouraged, as the pressure and temperature are not stable enough to guarantee a good result.
At what temperature and for how long should I press?
Recommended values for cotton and denim:
• Temperature: 150 °C
• Pressing time: 15 seconds
• Pressure: medium
Recommended values for polyester, softshell and blends:
• Temperature: 135 °C
• Pressing time: 20 seconds
• Pressure: medium
My transfer is peeling off or not sticking, what should I do?
Most of the time, this comes from:
• a lack of pressure,
• of a temperature that is too low,
• of a dusty or damp textile.
Pressing for 4 to 6 seconds with a finishing sheet (parchment paper or Teflon): often sufficient to correct the problem.
Should the film be removed while hot or cold?
The DTF protective film can be removed when hot, although you can let it cool down without any problems.
Peel it off gently just after pressing, then press again for 4 to 6 seconds to seal the ink and improve wash resistance.
Does DTF hold up well in the wash?
Yes, DTF offers excellent wash resistance when applied correctly.
Correct application ensures durability for more than 50 washes.
Can I use DTF on light polyester?
Yes, DTF is very suitable for light or dark polyester.
For technical clothing, be sure to adjust the temperature if necessary to avoid sublimation or thermal deformation effects.
Can I press the same DTF pattern multiple times?
Yes, DTF handles a second pressing very well.
The double pressing (15 s + 4–6 s) further improves the durability and resistance of the pattern.
Do micro-details hold up well in DTF?
Very fine details can be fragile, especially when isolated.
For optimal results, avoid elements < 0.5 mm or plan for a slight thickening of the contours.
Can DTF break down over time?
The DTF does not crack when:
• The pressure is correct,
• The pressing time is respected,
• the textile is not overheated.
Cracking usually indicates insufficient or excessively cold pressing.
When can I wash the garment after application?
It is recommended to wait 24 hours before the first wash to ensure optimal adhesion.
DTF textile compatible media
DTF can be applied to many fabrics: cotton, polyester, blends, softshell… but some textiles are not recommended. For a complete list of suitable materials, limitations, and our usage recommendations, please consult our detailed guide:
